Read Alex Kazemi’s interview with the man behind the inspiration for Eminem’s millennium classic “Stan”.
Alex Kazemi: Hey Stan, How are you?
Stan: I am okay, just an average day.
Alex Kazemi: What is the average day in the life of Stan?
Stan: I usually go on eBay and bid on autographed photos of Em to decorate my room with, and then get a couple shirts from the tours I couldn’t make it too. I sit on my computer all day now and research as much as I can know about him, some people want to study Philosophy in College.. I want to study Eminem. I’m not ugly and I don’t live in my parents basement, Now with Tumblr in 2012, I can track his tag and that really makes things easier in my life.
Alex Kazemi: You were 17, when the song came out and around 16 when you wrote the letter to him.. Were you shocked, excited.. Did you feel exposed?
Stan: Look, I didn’t feel exposed but in the beginning I was nervous about what my family would think. I wasn’t “obsessed” , I was interested in him and a human had never touched me in the way his words did and I still think it was fucked up, he didn’t get Matthew an Autograph that night, even though he apologized and gave another one in the beginning of the letter.
Alex Kazemi: Did he fabricate the letter at all? Did you actually try to kill your pregnant girlfriend?
Stan: No, I didn’t try to kill her but she was definitely pregnant, I talked about it in the letter, I sent to him and Eminem’s music definitely played a huge role in how I wanted to rush sex. I never hit her like he hit Kim though, I would never do that but I definitely tried Mushrooms because of “My Fault” off The Slim Shady LP…He exaggerated the concept naturally like the true artist he is.
Alex Kazemi: Another thing you mention in the letter, is the “Underground shit” Eminem did with Skam?
Stan: Oh yeah, Eminem did a song with Skam before he blew up and the song I was talking about is called “Three Six Five”, it’s somewhere on YouTube now. Back in the late 90s, I had to bust my ass off to get a glimpse of that track and now these kids are streaming it for free. Oh boy!
Alex Kazemi: When was the last time you were in touch with the man himself? (Eminem).
Stan: Not for a long time, that asshole won’t write back to my letters but it’s cool because I’m going to try to hack Interscope and get his personal email. I’m going to be on my Cyber Swag! Watch out Fan Site administrators, Stan is still here.
